CASE STUDY – JOB OPENING FOR SDRs
Client: Avalara
Avalara is building cloud-based tax compliance solutions to handle every transaction in the world.
Imagine every transaction you make — every tank of gas, a cup of coffee, pair of sneakers, movie ticket, meal kit, streamed song, sensor-to-sensor ping. Nearly every time you make a purchase, physical or digital, there’s an accompanying unique and nuanced tax compliance calculation.
The logic behind calculating taxes — the rules, rates, and boundaries — is a global, layered, three-dimensional mess of complexity, with compliance dictated by governments and applied by every business, every day.
Avalara works with businesses of all sizes, all over the world — from corner stores to gigantic global retailers — to calculate tax accurately and automatically, at speeds measured in milliseconds. That’s a massive technical challenge, in terms of scale, reliability, and complexity, and we do it better than anyone.
That’s why we’re growing fast. Headquartered in Seattle, Avalara has offices across the U.S. and around the world, in Belgium, Brazil, Canada, India, and the U.K.
Problem:
Avalara wanted to find, evaluate, and hire the best SDRs (Sales Development Representatives) to join their Sales Development Organization. It consumes a lot of the recruiters’ time to deal with a large number of applicants for these junior roles. In addition to the logistical challenges of interviewing so many people, judging by gut instinct is difficult.
Solution:
It was TALSMART’s job to identify and evaluate the best talent in the nation who would be most suited for the fast-growing cloud technology industry. In addition to having strong technical aptitude and natural sales instincts, they should also be customer-oriented and highly energetic. We sourced 40 candidates in three days who then went through TALSMART IT Sales IQ assessments. Voice samples were also requested to assess communication skills.
Almost 40 candidates attempted the assessment. 6 were shortlisted based on the below criteria:

What you’ll do:
Respond to and qualify incoming web and phone inquiries regarding Avalara products, Create a great first impression to our prospects and customers by providing them with a world-class experience, and Build an excellent knowledge of products and services to be sold.
Maintain active engagement with new and existing leads through creative follow-up communications designed to increase customer interest in Avalara products
Drive customer participation in webinars, certification events, and/or conferences
Achieve monthly quotas of qualified and sales accepted opportunities
Actively collaborate as a team member within the department and with the organization as a whole
